Student Sponsorships

Our Student Sponsorship program provides the opportunity for secondary students to attend school by connecting these students with sponsors around the world. The students eligible for sponsorships attend our current educational partner, Awegys School in Kigo, Uganda.  To be considered for a sponsorship, our students must demonstrate a strong commitment to their education.

How can I become a sponsor?

For a sponsorship, the sponsor contributes $54/month or $650/year. A sponsorship provides the school fees for that student and supports the development of our educational partner, Awegys School.

To support additional needs of our student (such as health care or school supplies) consider contributing to our general student fund.  Contributions can be made by visiting our Donate page.  If you would like to choose a student to sponsor, meet our students here.

Why does a sponsorship help my student?

Many students cannot afford their school fees and often take breaks from their education to find jobs and earn money.  After leaving, a number of students never return to school.  A sponsorship covers the cost of a student’s school fees, allowing them to continue their education uninterrupted and without the same financial burden.

Additionally, tuition fees support the school by assisting with teachers’ salaries, school materials, food costs for students, and so on.  By sponsoring a student, you aren’t just allowing student to attend school--you are also creating a stronger academic environment for the entire school.

How can I make a personal connection with my student?

All sponsors receive at least three letters per year from their student, we encourage our sponsors to reply as they wish.  After we receive and process your sponsorship request, you will receive a personal letter from us along with your student’s photo and biography.

Some of our sponsors also like to send appropriate care packages to our students.  All mail is directed through the Mtaala Foundation. The personal connection that comes from cross-cultural exchange is an asset to our program.
